Meet The Baker

Hi, I’m Emily, the baker and designer behind The Flamingo Bakery, based between Ripon and Thirsk in North Yorkshire. I’ve been creating celebration cakes professionally for over 11 years, though it all began quite unexpectedly when I made my brother’s wedding cake as a one-off. After seeing and tasting it, the venue invited me to become one of their recommended suppliers — and that was the moment I realised this was something truly special I could build. My style is elegant, refined and thoughtfully on trend, with each cake designed to feel beautifully personal to the couple it’s created for. Before baking, I worked as a lingerie designer for brands including M&S, travelling between Harrogate, London and Sri Lanka, before choosing a new path that gave me the freedom to build a business around family life. I’m now a proud mum and wife, and I still feel incredibly lucky that my work allows me to be part of such meaningful moments. My favourite part is delivering each cake on the wedding day — stepping quietly into such a special celebration, even for just an hour, always feels like a privilege, and I never leave without a smile.
